riverside community hospital - new helistop atop an existing parking structure
This project consists of the construction of a new 3,000 sf helistop on top of an existing three-level parking structure at the Riverside Community Hospital. The hospital is one of the largest and busiest emergency / Level II Trauma Centers in the Inland Empire and it is located in a high-seismic area.
Working with Puchlik Design architects, IDS provided the engineering design services and construction administration of the project. The new steel frame helistop features 3-sided braced frames, an aluminum landing deck supported on long-span steel girders, and a cantilevered gurney rampway supported on a post-tensioned 3-level concrete parking structure.
The helistop has provided the hospital’s trauma patients with a fast access to hospital emergency services, and in the aftermath of a major seismic event in the region, it would also serve in bringing injured patients and medical supply to the hospital.
This project was awarded the 2012 "Excellence in Engineering" Award by the Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) for the "Special Use Structures".
